IDAHO FALLS — A woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing keys to a vehicle that wasn’t hers along with kicking and headbutting officers.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Idaho Falls Police Department, on Feb. 15, two officers were called about a burglary at a business near the 600 block of West Pancheri Drive.

The victim told police he had parked his black Ford near a store. He went to work and then went outside two hours later to get in his vehicle and noticed his vehicle keys were missing from the dash. He said his wallet and phone were left inside the vehicle.

He said he reviewed video surveillance and saw a person wearing a black jacket, green or tan pants and white shoes go inside his vehicle around 7:40 p.m.

Police reviewed the footage. In the video, the suspect is seen wearing a black puffy jacket, green pants and white shoes, carrying a black purse and comes behind the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then walks past the vehicle towards Candlewood Suites. She turns around and approached the victim’s vehicle on the driver side. She walks to the driver side door and “enters the unlocked vehicle,” documents said.

The woman is inside for about 34 seconds. She then closes the driver side door and walks towards South Yellowstone Highway.

The officers checked the area to see if the suspect could be found. Officers found a woman matching the description in the surveillance video. She was about 150 to 200 yards from where the victim’s vehicle was parked.

When confronted about entering the truck, the woman said she needed money and wanted to get out of town.

The suspect was later identified as Ashlyn Nicole Hill, 19.

When asked about the keys, she denied taking the keys from the vehicle. She gave verbal consent for police to search her purse.

“I searched the purse, which had a 10-inch knife but no keys,” an officer wrote.

Hill then agreed for police to check her pockets.

“I started on her left side, nothing located. When I got to her right side, she reached into her right coat pocket and grabbed an item. When she raised her right hand, I observed a key in her hand,” an officer said in documents.

The officer took the key and hit the lock button on it. The victims vehicle lights started flashing. When asked what type of car she had, Hill could not provide an answer, documents said.

Hill was detained but refused to get her feet in the police cruiser and began to thrash around, then allegedly headbutted an officer in the face.

Officers attempted to move her into another cruiser but she put her feet on the door to prevent officers from moving her. She then kicked an officer, police said. She also kicked the cruiser.

Eventually, officers were able to get her in the vehicle and transport her to jail.

Hill was charged with three felonies including one count of burglary and two counts of battery on a police officer.

She was given a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Bonneville County Courthouse.
