POCATELLO — A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting an officer has been ordered to spend a minimum of four years in prison.

After reaching a plea agreement with the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office, 27-year-old Skylar Wind Dancer Johnson pleaded guilty to the felony charge and a deadly weapon enhancement, court documents show. In exchange, a second felony for assault on an officer and an additional felony for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon were each dismissed.

At an April 10 sentencing hearing, District Judge Rick Carnaroli sentenced Johnson to a prison term of four to 10 years.

Johnson was arrested in July after Pocatello police responded to a “shots fired” call on North 9th Avenue.

When they arrived, a man, later identified as Johnson, aimed a handgun at them and fired. Officers were able to subdue Johnson and place him under arrest without any injuries being reported.

Officers reported hearing at least three gunshots as they arrived. A woman told police that Johnson had threatened her with the gun before firing multiple shots into the air.

In addition to the prison sentence, Johnson was ordered to pay $345.50 in fees and fines. He was remanded into the custody of the Idaho Department of Corrections following the sentencing hearing.
