IONA —- A dinner and auction is aiming to help a local nonprofit fund and continue its mission to ending period poverty.

Idaho Period Project will host an inaugural dinner and auction on Friday, April 28, called “Pink Party: Changing the Cycle” at the Iona Community Center at 6 p.m. There is a goal to raise $30,000.

“One of the purposes of the event is to raise enough money to provide summer period packs for girls,” said Avrey Hendrix, founder of the Idaho Period Project. “We are advocating for girls to give them easier access to these things because they are a basic need.”

Idaho Period Project is a local nonprofit bringing awareness to period poverty and the need for support in feminine hygiene. It began in January 2022, and according to its website, the nonprofit has installed 83 dispensers and donated more than 30,000 period products to over 1,000 girls across nine counties in east Idaho.

At the event, there will be a dinner by Creative Catering along with live and silent auctions.

“So many people have been so gracious and kind to donate some auction items. Someone local donated an Island Park stay, and then we are going through a company that does donation trips … we have one to Italy, Mexico and Maine. So that’s kind of fun and exciting,” Hendrix said.

There will additionally be a special guest speaker named Emily Bell McCormick, who is the president and founder of The Policy Project. She has worked to end period poverty in Utah. Hendrix said Rep. Rod Furniss-R would also speak briefly about the legislative work done in Idaho, like trying to provide free menstrual products in girl’s bathrooms. Click here to learn more.

Hendrix is expecting at least 100 people at the event. If you would like to purchase a ticket, click here. Tickets are $60 for an individual or $475 for a table of eight. Tickets need to be purchased by April 22. Or, click here to donate.
