Wendy’s will open in new Rexburg location later this year
REXBURG — Construction is underway on a new Wendy’s restaurant on the north end of Rexburg.
The 2,900-square-foot restaurant is being built south of Walmart at 240 East Moody Road.
An exact date for completion has not been determined, but Braeden Ricks, a marketing executive for the franchise, tells EastIdahoNews.com a grand opening is being planned for the third week of August.
Supply chain shortages related to the COVID-19 pandemic have delayed construction since it was announced in January 2022.
Customers can expect the same menu available at other locations, but Ricks says the layout and design of this restaurant will be a little different than other locations in eastern Idaho.
“The store itself is pressed right up to the sidewalk. We’re really trying to utilize and maximize the space we have there,” Ricks says. “It’ll be a dual lane (drive-thru) … which will help anybody and everybody come through more quickly to get their food.”

Inside, the completed restaurant will have three kiosks to the right of the entrance where customers can place their orders. The idea behind this is to eliminate long lines and make the ordering process quicker and more efficient.
It will also have private booths, lounge seating and a Wi-Fi bar, along with a touchscreen fountain drink dispenser offering more than 100 different beverages.
Wendy’s opened at 545 North 2nd East in 1985. It closed in April 2021 after 36 years of business. Pick Me Up opened its second Rexburg location in that building several months later.
The Wendy’s closure was part of an initiative to revitalize the fast-food chain’s image and give it a fresh look and feel. Ricks cites its convenient location off U.S. Highway 20 as one reason he liked the new spot.
“It’s on your way to go skiing, to visit national parks. There’s a lot of tourism that comes through that area, and there’s really not a whole lot of food or other options (in that part of town),” he says.

EastIdahoNews.com reported in 2021 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bought the property across the street from this location, where it plans to build a 130,000-square-foot temple.
This and other development projects in the works for Sugar City are other reasons Ricks saw this as an ideal location.
“This restaurant will be built in this specific location with our customers in mind,” franchise co-owner Robert Pincock says in a news release. “We believe our fans will be delighted by our breakfast menu, by the fresh look and feel and the contactless pick-up and curbside options we offer when they dine with their family and friends.”
Pincock, and Braeden’s brother, Todd, are the owners of 10 Wendy’s restaurants from Preston to Rexburg.
Braeden is excited to see construction finally happening on the new Rexburg store, and he’s eager to unveil it to the community.
