IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Transportation Department is inviting the public to join them at a meeting to discuss its plans for a “connector road” between U.S. Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 26.

The plan is to connect the two highways from around the St. Leon exit to Beaches Corner, said ITD Project Manager Ryan Day.

“We call it the St. Leon Interchange,” he said.

Beach’s Corner is where 35th North intersects with U.S-26 and 49th North.

“The goal of the project is to provide the traveling public access between these highways and increase mobility in the area and region,” the news release said. “Connecting the two highways will provide more convenient access to motorists without having to impact the local road network.”

According to a news release from the department, the public will be able to view displays and give input on potential alternatives.

“This is just the first public meeting,” Day said. “As we get input, we’ll start refining the options.”

The projected start date for the project isn’t until 2029, but there are a lot of steps to go through before then, Day said.

The meeting will be held in an open house format, so stop by anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 16 in the Commons Area at Bonneville High School, 3165 E. Iona Rd.

“The public will be able to view information, talk to ITD staff and submit written comments,” the release said.

If you can’t make the meeting in person, displays will also be posted on the project website on Wednesday, May 17. The website includes a comment form for those who prefer to submit comments electronically.
