Goodwill opening in Rexburg next month
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — Area thrifters will have a new shopping option in Rexburg starting Sept. 7. Goodwill is opening a store at 125 Valley River Drive, giving the community a new source of affordable, gently-used clothing and household items.
“We are very excited for this new opportunity to expand to Rexburg,” Bill Collins, vice president of facilities and retail, stated in a news release. “Donors may think they’re just cleaning out their closet, but giving gently used items to Goodwill, also gives someone a chance to change their life.”
The regional nonprofit operates in Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming. According to Collins, Goodwill employees learn valuable skills to benefit them throughout their careers such as customer service, cashiering, time management, teamwork and goal-setting. Goodwill also offers career coaching services, which provide team members with learning and support opportunities that can help them “navigate their career and enhance their job satisfaction and success,” according to the news release.
Currently, Goodwill has locations in Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Twin Falls. The Rexburg location will have a 6,500 square-foot sales floor and employ 10 to 15 people, all of whom are from Rexburg or the surrounding areas.
Goodwill joins several other thrift stores in Rexburg. Deseret Industries — owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — also offers career training and coaching. The Family Crisis Center on Main Street operates a thrift store called Second Helpings. Two clothing stores — Rexburg Lived In Apparel Thrift Shop and Salon and Preloved — are both vendor-based consignment shops.
Generally speaking, folks can donate household items and clothing to Goodwill, Chelle Fried, director of digital marketing and community relations, said. “Items include — but are not limited to — clothing, shoes, accessories, household items, games and toys, books and media, furniture, plus much more.”
Donation hours are Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once the store opens, Fried noted, drop-off hours will be Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Gently-used clothing, housewares, electronics and furniture items are accepted at the donation drive-thru and help us get the store fully stocked in preparation for our Grand Opening,” Fried said. Right now, donation receipts include a 20% off coupon redeemable at the Rexburg store when it opens, or at any of the other locations, including Pocatello and Idaho Falls.
A listing of what the store can and cannot accept can be seen here.
There will be a ribbon cutting with the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 7, and the store will open at 9 a.m. First 75 customers through the doors will get a special gift. During the grand opening weekend, shoppers can enter to win one of five $100 gift cards they can use at the new Rexburg location. Winners will be drawn on Sept. 11.
