Local Habitat for Humanity receives $5,000 grant

IDAHO FALLS –Habitat for Humanity Idaho Falls Area is pleased to announce it has been awarded $5,000 from the Forever Idaho East grant in the Idaho Community Foundation.
“The Idaho Community Foundation is proud to support the terrific work of Idaho Falls Habitat for Humanity,” said Jennifer Kronberg, ICF Director of Communications and Marketing. “This grant was made possible through the power of collective giving from hundreds of people in eastern Idaho who donated to the Idaho Community Foundation. It is truly a grant from the community!”
These funds will support rebuilding the community center at Petersen Place, a Community of Hope. The community center will serve as a gathering place, a place of learning and much-needed office space for Habitat for Humanity Idaho Falls Area.
The Petersen Place affordable housing community has become Habitat’s top priority as the need for affordable housing has quickly outpaced the meager number of affordable housing units available. At completion, Petersen Place will provide residents access to supportive services, and the neighborhood will remain affordable, well-maintained, and full of opportunities for personal growth.
“We want to thank the Idaho Community Foundation and all of the donors who made this grant possible,” said Habitat for Humanity Idaho Falls Area’s Executive Director, Karen Lansing. “Thank you for believing in Habitat for Humanity Idaho Falls Area’s newest housing initiative, Petersen Place. This unique project will make it possible to serve the housing needs of over 100 local families.”
Habitat serves those earning 25-80% of the area’s average median income (AMI) according to household size. This demographic primarily consists of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households, women-led households, communities of color, people experiencing a health or mental health crisis, people experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis, refugees, seniors and veterans. Petersen Place will welcome households experiencing housing insecurity into a supportive community where they can receive support, education, and the freedom to improve their current life situations and future opportunities.
