Two minors killed, three people hospitalized in Gooding crash
Published at | Updated atGOODING — A two-vehicle crash left two minors dead Friday evening, according to a news release from the Idaho State Police.
A little after 5 p.m., police say a juvenile was driving a Honda Odyssey east on U.S. Highway 26 and attempted to turn north onto 2000 East.
The driver reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign while trying to cross the highway. The Honda was struck by a Ford Excursion, driven by a 50-year-old Wendell man who was headed west.
“The Honda then went off the north shoulder and struck an unoccupied Backhoe,” officials said in the news release.
The driver of the Honda, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital in a personal vehicle, authorities said.
The Honda was carrying three minors, according to police. One passenger, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital via ambulance. They were later airlifted to another hospital.
The two other passengers, both of whom were reportedly wearing seatbelts, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford and a juvenile passenger in the truck were both transported to a local hospital by ambulance, according to police.
The road was blocked for about four hours to allow emergency personnel and law enforcement to investigate and clear the scene.
