Two semis and one car crash, sending two people to hospital

NEW PLYMOUTH — A semi-truck driver and his passenger were injured and hospitalized in a three-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, according to Idaho State Police.

According to a news release, the incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 84, southwest of New Plymouth.

A 30-year-old man from Caldwell had pulled his Nissan Rogue over to the side of the interstate and stopped on the right shoulder. When he tried to re-enter traffic, police say his vehicle was hit by a Cascadia Freightliner semi.

The semi was reportedly driven by an 48-year-old man from North Carolina. A 58-year-old male from North Carolina was a passenger.

Behind the two wrecked vehicles, a Freightliner tractor-trailer pulled off to the right shoulder, as well. Police said the 49-year old man driving that semi pulled over to avoid colliding with the other two vehicles.

“(The tractor-trailer) slid down the embankment and onto its side,” authorities said in the news release.

The driver and passenger of the Cascadia semi were taken to a local area hospital via ground ambulance, police said.

I-84 was blocked for over 10 hours, according to Idaho State Police. This incident is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
