Drink 32 ounces of eggnog when you run at this new Ammon event
Published at | Updated atAMMON — Get ready, set, drink some eggnog and run! A new fun run event is coming to the city of Ammon for the very first time called the “Nogathon,” and it’s sure to be one that participants won’t forget.
“Basically, it’s a mile race on a quarter-mile course. Before each lap, everyone has to drink 8 ounces of Reed’s Dairy eggnog. So it’s one mile and 32 ounces,” Ammon recreation coordinator Randal Miller said.
That’s four laps, with 8 ounces per lap!
When EastIdahoNews.com asked Miller if he imagines anyone will get sick from drinking too much eggnog at the event, he replied laughing, “Nooo. No way! … We will be ready if things like that happen. We will have plenty of trash cans out there. We’ll be ready!”
The Nogathon will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at McCowin Park in Ammon.
“It’s a fun, goofy way to kind of kick off the holidays. We are working with Reed’s Dairy. Reed’s Dairy is donating all of the eggnog — chocolate or regular. You have your choice,” he explained.
He said the idea behind the Nogathon came from his neighbor in the McCowin Park community. She mentioned to Miller that when she went to college in Arizona, they did a “nogathon” during the holidays.
“I said, ‘Nogathon? What’s that? Tell me about it.’ She told me about it, and the wheels just started turning,” Miller said.
The event is also an opportunity to donate nonperishable food items, unwrapped toys or winter clothing.
“Everybody that brings a donation of either three of those things, Kneaders will give you a card for free french toast,” he said. “If you show up in a (holiday) costume, you are entered to win an additional prize.”
The Community Food Basket of Idaho Falls will be in attendance along with the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership (EICAP) and the local American Legion. It’s Veterans Day, and there will be a flag ceremony before the fun run.
More than 70 people have preregistered, which included a T-shirt and swag bag. Preregistration is over. However, Miller said they will accept walk-ups the day of. It is a $10 entry fee and only cash will be accepted.
“We’ll take as many that show up, but we can’t guarantee everybody gets a T-shirt or a swag bag,” Miller said. “All the proceeds from the entries are going to the Community Food Basket of Idaho Falls, EICAP and the American Legion.”
Miller said he is excited about the new event that’s never been done in the city and encourages people to come out.
“This is a fun run. We are not really keeping time. Show up in costume if you want, drink some eggnog, walk, run, have a good time!” he said.
