IDAHO FALLS — A 37-year-old Idaho Falls woman was arrested on Friday after she was allegedly caught trying to sell drugs to someone secretly working with police.

Kaylie Rae Bumbaugh was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

On June 29, detectives from the Idaho State Police District 6 Investigations Office, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Office and Idaho Falls Police Department conducted a controlled purchase of fentanyl pills from Bumbaugh.

According to court documents, officials sent a confidential source to purchase the pills from Bumbaugh.

The source reportedly bought ten suspected fentanyl pills from Bumbaugh for $120 in the parking lot of the Econolodge hotel on North Holmes Avenue.

During the purchase, investigators were reportedly watching and listening to the interaction on electronic monitoring devices and through surveillance.

According to police reports, around 3:51 p.m., a sergeant saw Bumbaugh approach the source’s car and get into the passenger’s side. She reportedly told the source she was waiting for a man named Greg to show up with the pills.

Two minutes later, Bumbaugh reportedly exited the car and entered the hotel through a side door. Soon after, Bumbaugh returned to the parking lot with an unknown man, and both got into the source’s car.

Officers say a second unknown man then showed up on a scooter. The source reportedly gave the money to Bumbaugh and received the ten suspected fentanyl pills after Bumbaugh’s alleged “dealer” arrived.

Five minutes later, detectives followed the source out of the parking lot and met with them at a predetermined location, where they retrieved the pills, which tested presumptive positive for fentanyl, according to court documents.

A warrant was issued for Bumbaugh’s arrest on Thursday, and she appeared in court for an initial appearance on Friday, where her bail was set to $35,000.

She is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 15. If convicted, she could face up to life in prison.

Though Bumbaugh has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
