Local high school student hosting benefit truck meet and he’s asking for your support
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS – Cameron Hobbs is a car and truck enthusiast, and he’s inviting you to attend a truck meet with “the coolest cars and trucks” on display for a cause.
It’s happening Thursday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in a vacant lot near The Water Front at Snake River Landing at 1220 Event Center Drive. The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospital for Children in Salt Lake and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Cameron is a freshman at Alturas Preparatory Academy in Idaho Falls. The event is an assignment for one of his classes, which involves organizing a community event.
He’s had personal experience with Shriners and wanted to host a benefit for it.
“I had to go there because I had an accident and had to get stitches and (other things),” Cameron says. “I know how (miserable going to the hospital can be) and I wanted to raise money to help make it a more (enjoyable) place for families and the patient.”
The money raised at his event will be used to buy blankets, toys and other items for kids who are patients there. He also wants to provide technology to allow the hospital to give better care to kids.
The event will have a variety of trucks, cars, semis and other custom vehicles on display. Among them will be a Golden Cummins truck from Canada with 22-inch lifted tires, along with SEMA trucks from across the country. Five vehicle owners from Mexico will be there as well.
Cost of admission is $5 per person.
Cameron is hoping for a big turnout, and he’s asking for your support.
“Let’s make it big,” says Cameron.
The meet is sponsored by Ball Ventures.
