The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS – As pickleball continues to be one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation, the Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department invites new and seasoned players to experience the new courts at Tautphaus Park for free.

Starting Thursday, July 18, through Wednesday, July 24, the brand-new indoor pickleball courts at the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Rink facility at Tautphaus Park will be free to use or rent.

“We’ve continued to see an increased need for pickleball facilities. We listened to our community and thought outside the box to create a brand-new opportunity for the pickleball players in our area. We wanted to provide this free opportunity to highlight this great new recreational amenity for our residents. We’re excited to provide a premier venue, while enriching community and providing healthy, fun experiences for all,” said Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Director PJ Holm.

The seasonal facility features five pickleball courts in total, three of which are reservable, while two are designated for drop-in play. Guests access the courts through the large garage door on the east side of the ice rink building, directly across from the Idaho Falls Zoo entrance. (not through the front doors of the facility)

“Get out of the hot summer heat and the constant wind by playing in this premier open-air facility,” Holm said.

Pickleball at Tautphaus Park will be a seasonal facility, open May through August of each year. The courts are open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Outside of the free week, the City of Idaho Falls residents can access the courts for $5 a person per session hour, and non-residents can play for $6 a person per session. Groups also have the option to rent a court, rather than paying the drop-in rate. Rentals, hours, rates and other information can be found here.

Pickleball is a dynamic and rapidly growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is accessible to players of all ages and skill levels, making it a popular choice for both recreational and competitive play. Known for its friendly and social atmosphere, pickleball is praised for its ability to provide a great workout while also fostering community connections and encouraging active lifestyles.

“Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of this exciting new chapter in Idaho Falls recreation history,” Holm said. “Bring your friends and family, meet fellow pickleball enthusiasts, and experience firsthand what makes Pickleball at Tautphaus Park the ultimate destination for pickleball lovers.”
