Ammon Days returns ‘bigger and better than ever’ this weekend
Published at | Updated atAMMON — An event for the community to enjoy is coming back this weekend with new activities, including a 100-foot zip line.
“It’s bigger and better than ever this year,” said Randal Miller, Ammon recreation director.
Ammon Days will be held from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 at McCowin Park.
It starts when 16 hot air balloons lift into the sky Friday at 7:30 a.m. There’s a hot air balloon photo contest where anyone can win prizes. The same day, there will be a “Glow Night” at 8:30 p.m., and there’s a pool glow swim that costs $5. The hot air balloons will take flight on Saturday and Sunday too.
Saturday will be the main event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be about 150 vendors, with giveaways and prizes. A few vendors include BodyWorx Massage Therapy, Crayster, East Idaho Weed Association, and Ka-Ko Jo’s. Click here to see the full vendor list.
“We’ve got vendors giving away gift cards, mountain bikes and limo services and all kinds of fun stuff. Each booth will give away their prizes however they want to do it,” Miller said.
Not only will there be a zip line, there will also be giant slip and slides, archery, bouncy houses, inflatable bull riding, live music, face painting, a car show, Star Wars characters and more.
“Everything is free. All of the events and activities are free with the exception of the dunk tank, which the swimming pool is using as a fundraiser and awareness,” Miller said.
And don’t forget to bring your appetite, as there will be food trucks galore to choose from like Taco H, Blackhawk BBQ Pit, Duck Donuts and Creamy Daze.
Miller told EastIdahoNews.com that the city is expecting a good-sized crowd.
“Ten thousand to 12,000 people throughout the day, but the good news is there is plenty of room, plenty of space out there. There’s so many options and there’s something for everyone,” he said.
It’s predicted to be a hot day, and it could reach the upper 90s. Event-goers are encouraged to wear sunscreen and bring a hat to wear and a water bottle.
“There’s going to be (water) misters out in the park. The splash pad will be going. Our Fiber Department … they are going to be giving out free water squirters,” Miller said.
There is limited parking around McCowin Park, and Miller highly encourages taking a shuttle that has been set up for Ammon Days.
“Go park at Hillcrest High School and take the shuttles over. District 93 is running buses back and forth all day long,” he said. “They are stopping and dropping off at each location about every 10 to 12 minutes.”
Overall, it’s supposed to be a fun-packed weekend.
“Come and enjoy! We are hoping that people just have a great time,” Miller added.
