GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW: Bonneville at Madison

Bonneville at Madison High School, 7 p.m.
History: The two teams last played in 2021, with Madison earning a 26-7 non-conference victory.
The non-conference opener should be a good test for both teams as each tries to find the right pieces and grab some momentum early before the crucial conference season gets underway. The Bobcats and Bees arguably play in the state’s most competitive 6A and 5A conferences, respectively, so any win is a good win.
Keys to the game: Shane Stephenson takes over as head coach for the Bees and has installed new offensive and defensive schemes. There’s been a quarterback competition in camp so Eli Hamilton and Brock Faulkner may both see some snaps.
Madison has a core group of senior returners and will definitely challenge the Bonneville defense with First-Team All-Conference running back Barkley Beck and honorable mention quarterback Hazen Torgerson returning behind an experienced line.
“We want to try to establish our homefield,” Madison coach Chandler Rhoads said of the season opener. “We just want to establish and set a physical tone.”
