AMMON — A man was arrested Sunday morning after deputies say he pointed a gun at people and fired it in the air.

Daniel Wise, 18, is charged with felony aggravated assault and was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the McDonald’s parking lot on South 25th East around 1 a.m. after receiving a report that a man pointed a shotgun out of a vehicle at bystanders and fired it in the air.

Wise then left the area and deputies stopped him near Hoopes Avenue and Parkwood Street. They found a shotgun inside the vehicle with a spent shell still inside the chamber, according to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses at McDonald’s told deputies Wise and another 18-year-old man had been in a verbal altercation earlier in the evening and Wise told the man he would “pump lead into his chest,” according to the release.

Wise left but later returned to the parking lot where the victim and others were standing.

“He was seen pointing the shotgun out of the passenger window toward them. The victim and other bystanders told deputies they ducked behind cars in the parking lot and heard loud bang as the vehicle Wise was in drove away,” the news release says.

Wise told deputies he had asked the driver of the car to pick him up earlier in the evening and give him a ride. He also mentioned he had smoked marijuana approximately three hours earlier, according to deputies.

The driver of the vehicle told deputies he saw Wise point the shotgun out the window and as the driver quickly started driving away, he heard a loud bang. The driver also said he was aware the shotgun was in the vehicle but did not know Wise was going to point it out of the window.

Wise appeared in court Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4.
