REXBURG — A man is in custody after a woman was found shot to death Thursday night.
Rexburg police officers were called to a report of shots being fired on Lilac Street in the Mill Hollow neighborhood around 11:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Rexburg Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a woman had been shot multiple times.
Madison County Coroner Sam Butikofer has declined to release the name of the deceased as the investigation is still active.
“Immediate life-saving measures were administered by responding officers and emergency medical personnel,” the news release says. “Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the female was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
A man was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail.
The identities of those involved have not been released but police say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. People are asked to avoid the area while officers continue their investigation.
“Rexburg Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” the release says.
