Man cited after crashing into school bus with kids on board, police say
Published atBLACKFOOT — A school bus with kids on board was involved in a crash Monday morning in Blackfoot.
The Blackfoot Police Department responded after 7:35 a.m. Lt. Blake Davis told EastIdahoNews.com a man was driving a gray Honda Civic northbound on U.S. Highway 91.
“He said he looked down for a moment and then when he looked up, didn’t realize the light had turned red. He ran the red light right there. The bus had the green light going west on West Bridge Street, and the Honda Civic that ran the stoplight hit the bus,” Davis said.
The driver’s airbags deployed, but the driver was uninjured.
Davis said nobody on the bus sustained major injuries, just bumps and bruises, and a 10-year-old and 12-year-old went by private vehicle to the hospital to get checked out.
The bus was headed to Blackfoot Charter School. Davis said another bus came and picked up the students then transported them to school.
The driver of the Honda was cited for failing to stop at a stoplight.
Blackfoot Charter School addressed the crash on social media and said parents with students who were involved had been contacted.
“We would like to thank Blackfoot PD, EMS, and the Blackfoot Fire Department for getting to the scene quickly and for making sure everyone was safe,” the school said.
