IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Fire Department would like to emphasize the Burn Ban implemented by Bonneville County after responding to a controlled burn that quickly got out of control Thursday afternoon.

A neighbor of a property on the 10000 block of North 25th East called 911 around 1:10 p.m. to report seeing a fire in a backyard. The neighbor reported seeing flames burning near a shed on the property.

Idaho Falls Firefighters responded immediately and located the fire burning near not only a shed, but a camper trailer and getting closer to a home on the property.

The fire was quickly contained, and firefighters were able to call all of the fire “out” at 1:55 p.m. The fire burned approximately a 1/4 acre.

“Due to the awareness of neighbors, we’re fortunate the fire did not burn any structures,” said IFFD Battalion Chief Mark Pitcher. “Burn Bans aren’t just in place arbitrarily. With the high temperatures and low humidities our region is experiencing makes even the smallest fire grow rapidly.”

Bonneville County’s Burn Ban enacted by the Bonneville County Commissioners went into effect Thursday, Aug. 1 and continues through Sept. 30.
