Woman driving the wrong way on I-84 is killed after head-on crash

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

PAYETTE COUNTY — Idaho State Police is investigating a head-on collision that occurred approximately 10:05 p.m. on Friday on eastbound I84 near exit 13 in Payette County.

A 57-year-old male of Salida, California, was traveling eastbound on I84 in a 2023 commercial vehicle Volvo hauling a trailer. A 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, being driven by a 46-year-old female of Boise, entered the interstate wrong way on the milepost 13 off ramp, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

The commercial vehicle was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and the vehicles collided head-on. The driver of the Chevrolet succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not transported. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The eastbound lanes of I84 were blocked for approximately five hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene.

ISP was assisted by Payette County Sheriff’s Office, Payette County Paramedics, New Plymouth Fire, and the Idaho Transportation Department.

This incident is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police
