Mila, our Pet of the Week, is recovering from surgery
Published at | Updated atMeet Mila. She is our Pet of the Week.
Romi Weaver, the Snake River Animal Shelter’s operations manager, isn’t sure what her breed is because they couldn’t get in touch with the original owner.
But she says Mila has a tattoo on her ear and is a “sweetheart.”
“She just underwent some major surgery. She had Pyometra,” Weaver says.
Pyometra is a serious, and potentially life-threatening, infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus, according to Cornell University.
“Many dogs with Pyometra have vaginal discharge and may feel very sick with a poor appetite, lethargy, vomiting and sometimes increased thirst or urination,” the university reports.
For a dog of Mila’s age and condition, Weaver says Pyometra doesn’t typically result in a positive outcome but “she is a fighter and is healing well.”
Mila has a pleasant disposition and interacts well with kids and other animals. Weaver says she will do well in any household.
“She’ll be the best companion pet for you,” says Weaver.
To meet Mila in person, stop by the shelter at 3000 Lindsay Boulevard in Idaho Falls. You can also call (208) 523-4219.
