A Christmas Light Parade will debut in Blackfoot alongside holiday festivities
Published atBLACKFOOT — Blackfoot merchants are rolling out a series of exciting holiday events, including the “Merry Light Parade” debut on Dec. 7, which promises to bring holiday cheer to downtown Blackfoot.
Julie Bench, owner of Tilden Co. at 100 W. Bridge Street, is helping to spearhead the events. Bench said the festivities start with the second annual Downtown “Shop Hop” on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Bench, “Shop Hop” was planned to help people get to know the small businesses in downtown Blackfoot. Sponsors include Tilden Co., Oh, Key! Escape Games, The Wood Korner and Paisley Cakes.
“Shoppers pick up a ‘passport’ from participating businesses for a chance to win prizes while enjoying the weekend getting to know the downtown businesses,” Bench said.
Bench also shared that the second annual “Winter Madness Sale” is set for Dec. 7, and the festivities will be even more special this year. In partnership with the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce, the inaugural “Merry Light Parade” will light up the streets from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. before the sale.
The parade will start on Broadway Street near the intersection of Bridge Street and Broadway and move north to Maple Street.
“This is a free event for the community to gather and celebrate the holidays. Santa Claus will be there for the kids, and all the participating merchants will have great deals for the ‘Winter Madness Sale’ that night to keep people downtown shopping,” said Bench.
Blackfoot’s Winter Madness Sale & Light Parade is sponsored by Tilden Co., Poky Dot Boutique, and The Wood Korner- The Wood Station.
While the Blackfoot Chamber is in charge of the “Merry Light Parade,” anyone is welcome to participate.
Blackfoot Chamber Executive Director Jamie Popejoy said, “Businesses, schools, churches, organizations, and individuals throughout east Idaho are welcome and encouraged to participate in the parade with floats, ATVs, or side-by-sides. Come and join the fun!”
Register here by November 21st to participate in the Merry Light Parade. Chamber members can participate for free, while non-members pay a $10 fee.
Applicants will receive an email with a parade information form on entree details that they must complete and return to the Chamber.
Popejoy praised the Blackfoot business community, saying, “Blackfoot is doing well. It’s growing and expanding. Downtown, the focus of this (holiday) event has a lot to offer. From wonderful locally owned bakeries, restaurants, craft and candy stores, clothing and gift shops, and so much more.”
