A Feel Good Friday surprise for a young man who managed fire base operations over the summer
Published atEastIdahoNews.com is partnering with Ashley and Ashley Outlet of Idaho Falls to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We recently received an email about a young man living in Pocatello named Hunter. It said:
Hunter has given up his summer to run the Fire Retardant Base at the Pocatello Airport. Hunter has a great crew working for him that has pumped over a million gallons of retardant this summer. The boys work seven days a week, usually 10 hours a day, and were extended due to several fires burned late into the summer.
The Pocatello firebase houses up to seven fire planes at a time. They fly on fires all over the states – Washington, Utah, Wyoming, California, and Idaho, to name a few.
Hunter is the youngest Base Manager for the HRC Company and they have sent him all over to manage different bases, such as Winslow, AZ, Roswell, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Spokane, Washington, and McCall, ID. They have to mix the retardant and fill the fire planes. If you mix too heavy, it could affect the plane when it takes off. If you don’t mix correctly, it won’t work on the fire.
We felt Hunter was deserving of a Feel Good Friday surprise! Check out the video in the player above.
