A local Secret Santa is giving $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season and the East Idaho News elves are helping out.

Every day, from now until the end of the year, we’ll be posting a Secret Santa surprise and today we’re visiting an incredible couple.

Karen and Dustin moved to eastern Idaho a few years ago. Karen was an amazing hiker and very athletic but got sick a few months after moving in. She started to lose her balance and nobody knows what’s wrong.

Karen has been to multiple doctors and spent six months in the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. At this point, she has no medical diagnosis. She has lost all ability to function on her own. Dustin has not left her side through all of this.

Throughout this two-year journey, Karen’s dad passed away, and Karen’s mom has had many medical issues. Dustin has been taking care of Karen and his mother-in-law while still trying to be there for their son, who is in high school.

Dustin is the most positive person. He is concerned about everybody else despite his situation. He is always asking what he can do to help and never asks for help or complains about his situation.

They need a wheelchair-accessible ramp to get Karen in and out of their house safely. They have been using a moving van ramp that is very steep and slick for Karen’s wheelchair and it’s not very safe for the winter.

Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to visit Karen and Dustin with an early Christmas gift. Check out the surprise in the video player above!
