POCATELLO — Bannock County voters have cast their votes and elected a new county prosecutor.

Republican Ian Johnson secured the majority of the votes with 61 percent on Tuesday night. Democrat Jessica Call received 39 percent of the vote.

“It makes me happy to know that many people went out and voted for me and had that much confidence in me,” Johnson said. “I hope to prove to all the citizens of Bannock County that they made the right decision. Like I said from the beginning, we can do better and help to make that happen.”

Stephen Herzog, who has been the prosecutor since 2012, did not seek reelection for another term.

Johnson, a former trial lawyer, prosecutor, defense attorney, and civil litigator, has worked for the city of Pocatello’s legal department for more than 10 years.

In total, Johnson received 23,506 votes while Call got 14,942 votes.

In a statement to EastIdahoNews.com, Call expressed her gratitude for the support she received from “family, friends and our community.”

“Despite the outcome, we highlighted important issues, and I hope our efforts contributed to the ongoing conversation about justice and community well-being in Bannock County. It’s clear that there’s more work to be done, and while the results may not have gone our way, I remain committed to serving and advocating for what’s best for our community,” Call said.
