Ever want to step inside a historic home? This is your chance

IDAHO FALLS — The Historic Homes for the Holidays tour is back for its fourth run of architecture appreciation.
Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through a tour of nine historic homes in Idaho Falls. Each home is at least 50 years old, marking them “historic.” The oldest house in the tour was built in the 1890s.
“It appeals to people who like holiday decor, it appeals to people who like historic homes, and it appeals to people who want to support preservation causes,” said Tour Organizer Rebecca Long Pyper.
Each home is lived in and owned by residents who decorated for the holidays themselves.
The Historic Homes for the Holidays tour began in 2018 and sprung from Long Pyper’s affinity for historic buildings.
“I’m a lover of historic homes,” Long Pyper said. “I just wanted to create some kind of opportunity for people to get inside these houses.”
Long Pyper is not shy, either. She found each home for the tour by making cold calls and knocking on doors. She has been inspired by the number of people willing to open their homes.
“It’s been a lot of approaching strangers that I think have great houses and fortunately, most of them are gracious enough to open up their doors,” Long Pyper said.
All proceeds will go towards local preservation projects. Long Pyper has been working with the city and she hopes to install signage marking historic neighborhoods in Idaho Falls.
The tours run on Dec. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
