Portneuf Health announces new CEO

POCATELLO — Portneuf Health has announced its selection to fill the role of chief executive officer.
Nate Carter, who was serving as interim CEO, will now officially take the job, according to a press release from the hospital. Carter was selected from a national search conducted by the hospital’s parent company, Ardent Health, and its Joint Venture Board with Portneuf Health Trust.
“I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to continue serving this great community and continue enhancing healthcare across our region,” Carter said.
Carter began his journey at the hospital as chief operating officer, and then stepped in to also fill the role of chief executive in August of this year when the previous CEO resigned.
Prior to joining Portneuf, Carter had held senior leadership roles at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon and Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania. Carter began as COO of Portneuf Medical Center in April 2019.
Carter, a graduate of Brigham Young University, received a master’s of healthcare administration at the University of Minnesota, and is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Cater has continued his involvement in academia as an adjunct professor at the Idaho State University College of Business and as president of the Idaho chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
In July, Governor Brad Little appointed Carter to serve on the Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency System Council, which is tasked with developing and implementing a statewide network of care of trauma, stroke and heart attack facilities.
Shaun Menchaca, president and CEO of Portneuf Health Trust, said Carter has “proven himself to be an exceptional leader.”
“His commitment to Portneuf and the Eastern Idaho community is strong, and his collaborative style makes this leadership transition seamless. Nate will continue to bring great things to our community and patients,” Menchaca said.
Carter spoke to his excitement to continue his work at Portneuf.
“Portneuf is full of dedicated caregivers who prioritize serving Eastern Idaho every day. Growing up in Idaho, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my career here, as well as raise my family in this amazing community,” Carter said.
