This is not a ‘wimpy burger,’ but a BIG burger you have to try. A new restaurant is opening in Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — Fresh and tasty burgers made “bigger than most people can eat” will be coming to Idaho.

Burly Burger, a company based in Utah, is expected to open on Black Friday, Nov. 29, at 3484 South 25th East in Idaho Falls. It’s near The Honey Baked Ham Company. Hayley Smith and her parents, Dennis and Cristen Hurst, are the franchise owners.

“We will be their first location outside of Utah, which is really exciting!” Smith told EastIdahoNews.com. “We thought that Idaho Falls would be a great opportunity to bring a unique, gourmet restaurant.”

Burly Burger has South Weber, Ogden, Layton, and West Haven locations.

The branding is considered rustic, and the logo shows a lumberjack eating a burger. The website says, “Get some burger in your beard,” along with “We won’t settle for wimpy little burgers. When you come to our establishment, our goal is to make sure you leave satisfied or stuffed with some leftovers on your face!”

“A lot of people have said, ‘How are we going to put the burger in our mouth?’ Because they’re just so big and tall. Our portion sizes are really big,” Smith said.

The burger names are quirky and fun, too. There’s “The Farley,” like actor Chris Farley, which is topped with buffalo chicken strips, lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing. There’s “The Paul Bunyan,” topped with a beef frank, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and burly sauce. And “The Duke,” like actor John Wayne, is described as a Western burger topped with cheddar cheese, onion rings, bacon, fry sauce and BBQ sauce.

There’s also “The Brigham,” which is a challenge that’s offered.

“It’s where we challenge somebody to eat ten patties…in a big, tall tower and a serving of fries and a shake,” Smith said. “The myth in Utah is that Brigham Young had ten wives, all named Patty.”

Young is an American religious leader and politician who was the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Brigham patties are topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and fry sauce.

Burly Burger will charge $47 if a customer wants to attempt the challenge. If they finish it all, they will give them a free shirt and refund the food purchase.

The restaurant also offers brisket burgers, chicken sandwiches, battered fries, battered cheese curds, salads and over-the-top shakes.

“I think the focus that we really have and want to have is making really delicious food, but we want our customers to come in and slow down because I feel like we live in such a fast-paced environment,” Smith said. “… Just enjoy their meals with their families and create memories in our restaurant.”

Once Burly Burger is open, the hours will be Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Smith is hoping the community will give them a try.

“A lot of people have said to us, ‘We haven’t heard of Burly Burger before.’ I think it is a chance for people to try something different, something new … kind of get out of their comfort zone and try something other than just your typical burger that has onions, tomatoes, and lettuce on it,” Smith said.
