POCATELLO – A 12,000-square-foot castle under construction at 9504 Nottingham Lane in Pocatello is getting some attention.

Alan and Susan Peck have been building it for the last 10 years. They call it ‘Nottingham Castle.’

Amenities include a double staircase as you walk through the front door with armored knights to greet you and a ballroom. The castle also overlooks a spectacular view, and will eventually have five bed and breakfast rooms.

Though it’s an addition to their home, the couple are planning to rent out the space for weddings, family reunions, parties and other occasions.

It was Alan’s fascination with history and the Middle Ages, in particular, that prompted them to build it.

“The old world architecture has just always been something that we’ve been interested in,” Alan tells KPVI. “I’ve always liked World War II, the Civil War, Revolutionary War, but I’ve always been drawn toward … the knights and the castles and all that. As a young boy, I just always liked those kind of movies and the architecture.”

The Pecks say there is still a lot more work to be done, like the moat in the front of the castle, which will eventually be filled with water. They’re hoping to have it completed in the next two to three years.

EastIdahoNews.com is planning a more in-depth story on the castle soon.
