Cattle on the loose along I-15 near Shelley snarls traffic
Published at | Updated atBLACKFOOT – Traffic is at a standstill along Interstate 15 near Shelley after a truck caught fire.
It happened Sunday at 1:39 p.m. at Shelley exit 108, according to Idaho State Police Lt. Marvin Crain.
It’s not clear what caused the fire, but Crain tells EastIdahoNews.com the truck was pulling a trailer full of cattle. The flames engulfing the truck were headed towards the trailer, which forced the driver to pull over and let the cows out.
No one was hurt.
Cows on the highway are the reason for the holdup in traffic. Northbound lanes are currently closed as a result.
Crain says a local fire department put out the fire. ISP is now working with the driver to round up the cows and get them to safety.
He anticipates traffic being delayed for the next couple of hours. Those who were planning to travel in that area may want to find a different route.
