PALISADES — A local coroner has identified a man who died over the weekend in a head-on crash involving a snowplow near Palisades Reservoir.

Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor said the man was Matthew Ishino, 66, of Shelley. He died at the scene due to traumatic injuries, Taylor said.

It happened on Saturday, Dec. 14, after 2:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 26 at milepost 391. Idaho State Police responded to the two-vehicle crash.

Ishino was reportedly driving a 2018 Jeep Renegade eastbound on US-26. ISP said the Jeep Renegade crossed the center line around milepost 391, hitting a 2020 Freight 114SD snowplow driving westbound.

A 48-year-old man from Swan Valley drove the snowplow. ISP did not say if he suffered any injuries.

Ishino received critical injuries and died at the scene, ISP said. His passenger, a 67-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Everyone was wearing seatbelts, police said.
