Idaho gas prices finally catch national average

The following is a news release from AAA Idaho.

BOISE – Idaho gas prices have finally caught up to the national average. According to AAA, both the state and U.S. averages are currently at $3.05 for a gallon of regular.

Idaho’s price is five cents cheaper than a week ago, 26 cents less than a month ago, and 51 cents less than a year ago. The national average is about a penny less than a week ago, six cents less than a month ago, and 20 cents less than a year ago.

The Gem State has plummeted to 18th in the country for most expensive fuel after several weeks in the top ten. Thirty-one states are already below the $3 mark for a gallon of regular, and Idaho could follow suit in coming days.

“We’ve enjoyed significant savings from a year ago, and that trend is likely to continue as we move into a bit of a lull after a record number of Thanksgiving travelers,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Cheaper fuel will continue to motivate family gatherings and winter recreation in the run up to the end-of-year holidays.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $68 per barrel, about $1 less than a week ago, $2 less than a month ago, and $6 per barrel less than a year ago.

Drivers can save even more by capturing fuel rewards points through their credit card, grocery store, cell phone provider, or other retailers.
