Latter-Day Saint mission president, 54, dies in France after unknown illness

LYON, France (KSL.com) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ mission president for the France Lyon Mission, Jason Michael Soulier, died in his sleep Saturday after feeling ill for a few days, according to a news release from the church.
Soulier, 54, from the Salt Lake area, took his post as mission president in June 2024, the release said, and “an official cause of death is still to be determined.” He is survived by his wife Jennifer H. Soulier and four adult children.
Elder James W. McConkie III and his wife Laurel will temporarily lead the mission, which consists of around 200 full-time missionaries, the release says.
“We express our love and deepest sympathies to President Soulier’s family and all the missionaries in the France Lyon Mission during this difficult time,” church spokesman Sam Penrod said in the statement.
