Man charged with rape after allegedly having sex with 17-year-old
Published at | Updated atPOCATELLO — A 22-year-old Pocatello man has been charged with a crime after allegedly having sex with a teenager and admitting to police that he knew she was 17.
Levi Carlquist is charged with felony rape where the victim is 16 or 17 years old and the defendant is more than three years older, court records show.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Pocatello Police Department, in early December, an officer was contacted by a teenager who reported being sexually assaulted by Carlquist.
The officer learned that Carlquist had gone to the victim’s house in late November in Pocatello. In a forensic interview, the officer found out that Carlquist had reportedly “moved her shorts aside” and had sex with her.
Through the investigation, the officer found Facebook messages between the victim and Carlquist. Some of the messages included Carlquist asking the teen where she lived and if he was at the correct house, court documents said. He reportedly talked about sex and nude photos were exchanged.
The officer was able to interview Carlquist at the Pocatello Police Department. Throughout the interview, Carlquist admitted to knowing that the victim was 17 and he nodded his head when the officer asked him if he went to her house and had sex with her, court documents said.
Carlquist had also reportedly blocked the victim on Facebook and told the officer that he deleted the messages between the two. The officer wrote in documents that he believed Carlquist was concealing evidence. Based on the interviews the officer conducted, Carlquist was arrested.
Carlquist was given a $10,000 bond and has since posted it. A no contact order was issued between Carlquist and the victim.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at the Bannock County Courthouse on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m.
Though Carlquist has been charged with this crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
