You have to see this! Grandma completes 1,575 push-ups to set world record for most push-ups in an hour
Published atWAY TO GO! — A 59-year-old grandma recently landed her name in the Guinness World Records for the second time this year.
Donna Jean Wilde, of Alberta, Canada, holds the world record for the longest plank time for a woman. In April 2024, she held a plank for four hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds.
But eight months later, on Sept. 28, 2024, Wilde decided to try and break the world record for most pushups completed by a woman in one hour. She accomplished her goal, and Guinness World Records officially recognized the record in late November.
Since then, videos of Wilde performing push-ups to break the record have gone viral. Wilde, a grandmother of 12, did 1,575 push-ups and broke the original record within 43 minutes.
She told ABC News she got the idea to try to break the world record for the most push-ups completed by a woman in an hour by performing 500 push-ups a day while training to beat the plank record.
“I thought, ‘Huh, after I finish the planking, maybe I’ll push myself a little bit,” Wilde said.
Wilde mentioned the planking was “much harder” than the push-ups. Despite months of training for the push-ups, Wilde explained what might have prepared her most for this challenge was her chronic health condition, transverse myelitis.
“Since she was in college, it has caused pain and tingling in her wrists and hands,” ABC News stated. “But she said that was an advantage here.”
Wild added, “I’m use to a little bit of pain all the time.”
