YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (Idaho Statesman) — A huge herd of bison trekked across a snowy valley in Yellowstone National Park in a stunning video.
Yellowstone Forever, a nonprofit partner of the park dedicated to “protecting, preserving, and enhancing Yellowstone for generations to come” shared the video to Instagram Wednesday, Jan. 29.
“Bison herd making tracks and shadows this past weekend in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley at about -20 degrees F,” the group said in the caption.
The video shows a herd of at least 50 bison trekking through deep tracks in the snow. The sun reflects off the deep blanket of snow and leaves long shadows stretching in front of each bison.
Several people weighed in on the surreal video.
“This is so beautiful,” someone wrote, sharing an anecdote of working at the park the summer of 1993 and meeting their husband working at the Old Faithful Inn. “The trips back over the years in winter though always felt so special. The quiet season.”
Another person also commented on how quiet the park gets during winter snow.
“It must be quite the experience to be there now with the quietness,” they said.
Several others said they found the scene and the bison beautiful, and one said the creatures are their “absolute favorite.”
“How magical is this,” another person said.
Lamar Valley is in Wyoming in the northeastern part of the park.
