AMMON – Love and dreams brought Bri Scofield to eastern Idaho six years ago. Now, she’s the owner of an adult dance studio in Ammon.

The 28-year-old Rhode Island native opened The Dance Bar in 2023 in an industrial building near Extreme Ballroom at 2833 East 14th North. It offers a variety of dance and yoga classes, including hip-hop, line and country dancing, along with swing, and heel or burlesque. A HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout is also available. See what the dancing is like in the video above.

The heel class is the most popular. She describes it as a “classier version of strip dancing.” Although there’s no stripping involved, Scofield tells EastIdahoNews.com it does have “some of the same dance moves.”

The purpose of the heel class, according to Scofield, is to promote confidence in one’s body.

“It helps you feel comfortable with who you are,” Scofield says. “We call it a heels class because most girls wear heels. We honestly have so much fun. We laugh pretty much the whole time.”

Although many of Scofield’s clients are women, every class, including the burlesque class, is open to anyone.

“If you’re serious about it and want to give it a try, I’m not going to turn you away — as long as everyone in the class is comfortable with it,” says Scofield.

Scofield has been dancing since she was 3. She moved to Ammon with her boyfriend in 2019 to attend Idaho State University. The relationship dissolved months after arriving here, but Scofield stuck around and obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and English.

She works full-time as a nurse during the day and teaches dance classes at night.

Scofield loves calling the Gem State her home.

Her lifelong interest in dancing prompted her to open The Dance Bar. Her goal is to ensure it’s a safe environment for adults to do something they enjoy without spending too much time or money.

“It’s a hard niche to target. A lot of adults out here have kids, which is great. They’ll do anything for their children … but they don’t do much for themselves,” she says.

Scofield is the sole dance instructor, and Berenice (no last name provided) from Elev8 Fitness teaches the HIIT classes.

Scofield hopes to add more classes and instructors as the business continues to grow.

“I would love to open a competition team for adults — have the ability to travel around and do competitions,” says Scofield.

Classes are available Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Some early morning classes are also available. A schedule and pricing information is available on the website, Instagram or Facebook page.
