EAGLE — It didn’t take long for the Idaho Potato Commission to sell out of a lipstick made from the Gem State’s most popular vegetable.

Kiss of French, a limited-edition “lip luxury that captures the essence of French fries,” was made available to the public on Tuesday morning for Valentine’s Day and within hours, it was gone.

“French fries aren’t just a favorite — they’re a staple. Americans consume over 9 billion pounds of French fries every year, and when they want the best, they turn to Idaho potatoes,” said Jamey Higham, President and CEO of Idaho Potato Commission. “With Kiss of French, we’re taking that obsession to a whole new level — bringing the appeal of fresh Idaho fries to an unexpected and unforgettable form.”

The lipstick was made with real Idaho potatoes “mashed and incorporated to ensure an authentic fry-inspired experience.” The commission offered the product for free online, although consumers had to pay shipping and handling fees.

The idea for the lipstick came after the commission released Frites by Idaho perfume in 2022. It sold for $1.89 and embodied “the irresistible essence of potatoes from Idaho; about the same price as a large order of fries.” The fragrance quickly sold out and was a viral hit.
