Grays to host annual fundraiser event for people with disabilities as they prepare for baseball season

POCATELLO — The Gate City Grays, Pocatello’s semi-pro baseball team, will host its fifth annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K Your Way through the month of March.
The Grays, and owners Terry and Erica Fredrickson, invite all to take part in the month-long event by walking, hiking, or running five kilometers. As Terry explained, the organization began this benefit event in 2020, when COVID-19 restrictions affected transportation options for people with disabilities.
Some of those affected were not able to get to work, due to the loss of transportation, Terry continued. Registration to take part in the event is $25 per person, with proceeds going to New Day Products and Resources, a Pocatello nonprofit offering assistance to those with disabilities.
“Participants will get a long sleeve shirt with a commemorative 5K your way logo,” Terry told EastIdahoSports.com via text message. “And if you take your furry friend for a walk, I have dog bandannas and cat bandannas that go with your shirt for an extra $5.”

Anyone interested in joining the event can register by phone — at (208) 232-7807 — or in-person — at 1704 North Main Street in Pocatello.
The Grays host similar fundraisers throughout the year, including the Disability Awareness 5K, in October, and Graysgiving, in December, collecting money for a number of nonprofits.
On the field
With baseball season just around the corner, Grays leadership is set to meet with representatives from fellow Northern Utah League clubs. They have not yet set a date for this season’s tryouts, Terry said, but preparation for tryouts and the coming season are underway.
