Team of the Year: Thunder Ridge adds another state trophy to its hardware collection as the program continues to grow

IDAHO FALLS – Thunder Ridge wrestling coach Jody Webb said the trophies are starting to pile up in his office so a new trophy case for the girls team is definitely needed after another successful season by the Titans.

“It’s growing every year,” Webb said of the program that won a state title last year and finished fourth this past season despite multiple injuries. “A few years ago we had half a dozen girls. It’s incredible.”

Thunder Ridge is now one of the biggest girls programs in the state with 30 wrestlers.

Once sparse, girls tournaments take place just about every weekend around the state and Thunder Ridge has been busy collecting hardware.

But the big one is always the state meet. Webb noted the team was optimistic about challenging for another championship, but five or six girls suffered season-ending injuries during the year so the squad was undermanned heading into the state tournament.

The good news for the Titans was that the available wrestlers all stepped up, with three earning medals, including sophomore Gracie Price placing fifth at 120, junior Ava Price finishing fifth at 138, and junior Shauna Anderson winning her second consecutive state title with a first-round pin in the 185 finals.

With consecutive state trophies, the Titans are the EastIdahoSports.com Girls Wrestling Team of the Year

The better news?

All the medalists, including state champ Anderson, will be returning for another run next season. Also returning is Olivia Silvester, who was a medalist in 2024, but was among the injured this past season.

With injured wrestlers returning, expectations are again high for next year, Webb noted. There are also potentially six to eight freshmen coming in next year who could make an impact, he said.

Sounds like the Titans could be in position to also add another EastIdahoSports.com Team of the Year honor.
