SALT LAKE CITY — More tickets to tour the renovated Salt Lake Temple are being released Tuesday after the first 1 million reservations were claimed in less than 24 hours.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released an additional batch of free open house reservations at 6 p.m. Another round of tickets is scheduled to be released Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.

Church officials say the staggered releases are part of a plan to accommodate as many visitors as possible during the highly anticipated open house.

The initial 1 million reservations were snapped up in less than a day, reflecting significant interest in seeing the historic temple following years of renovation.

The Salt Lake Temple has been undergoing an extensive renovation since December 2019. Before it is rededicated, members of the public will be able to walk through the temple and learn about its history and the role temples play in the faith.

Church leaders say they hope visitors see the open house as more than a tour of the landmark building.

“This is more than touring a building — a remarkable building,” Primary General President Rosemary K. Chibota said. “It is about coming closer to Jesus Christ. It is about feeling God’s love for us and remembering that all of us are beloved children of our Heavenly Father.”

The open house is part of the six-month Salt Lake Temple Celebration, themed “Rejoice in Christ.” The celebration will run from April 5 through Oct. 1, 2027, and include tours, exhibits, performances, films, service opportunities and virtual experiences.

Those unable to visit Salt Lake City will also be able to participate through digital resources and a virtual tour of the temple.

Reservations and additional information are available through TempleSquare.org and the Temple Square app.
