UPDATE: The Bonneville County Sheriff’s office reports the man who was shot by police has been updated to critical condition.

IDAHO FALLS – A man is being treated at Eastern Idaho Medical Center after Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies shot and tasered a man during a confrontation early Monday morning.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s office reports deputies received a 911 call around 1:00 a.m. to a home in northern Bonneville County concerning a neighbor finding a pregnant woman crying. Deputies learned a man, the pregnant woman’s spouse, had allegedly hit the woman and left the area in a vehicle.

Twenty minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle and performed a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Exxon Gas Station on Yellowstone and North Woodruff.

During the traffic stop, deputies say the man was uncooperative with sheriff’s deputies and Idaho Falls Police, who also responded.

Bonneville Sgt. Jeff Edwards reports a taser was used on the man almost simultaneously with the firearms during the confrontation. The man was transported to Eastern Idaho Medical Center for his wounds. According to sheriff’s office, he is in stable condition.

The Southeast Idaho critical incident team is investigating the shooting. Investigators from Rexburg Police Department, Idaho State Police, Pocatello Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office and Power County Sheriff’s Office are on scene.
