Idaho National Laboratory announces new director

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho National Laboratory has named a new director.
Mark Peters, Ph.D., will take on his new role at INL on Oct. 1, said Ron Townsend, chairman of Battelle Energy Alliance’s Board of Managers, on Thursday.
Peters’ experience includes serving as the associate laboratory director for Illinois-based Argonne National Laboratory’s Energy and Global Security directorate, which includes Argonne’s programs in energy research and national security.
Peters is called upon frequently to provide expert testimony to Congress and to advise in formulation of policies for nuclear fuel cycles, nonproliferation and nuclear waste disposal, INL said. He also holds leadership positions with the American Nuclear Society and was recently named an ANS Fellow, the highest honor the society bestows.
He earned his doctorate in geophysical sciences from the University of Chicago and his bachelor’s degree in geology from Auburn University. He also received management training at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Peters replaces John Grossenbacher as INL director. Grossenbacher announced his retirement in November 2014.
