Madison Fire Department investigates building fire west of Rexburg
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — The Madison Fire Department continues to investigate a structure fire that ignited in rural Madison County at 9:12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21.
Emergency personnel responded to 128 N. 5200 W. in Madison County west of Rexburg. Upon arrival, the fire department found a 60 x 80 ft. metal commercial structure fully engulfed in flames.
The building was occupied by Mountain Valley Floor Mats, a floor mat vending company, according to a Madison Fire Department news release.
Fire fighters doused the exterior of the building, protecting nearby fuel tanks, vehicles and other equipment near the structure.
The fire was contained to the building, but, according to the news release, the building and all the building’s contents were a total loss, estimated to be near $1 million.
The blaze was brought under control and contained by 2 a.m. by some 28 local firefighters. Some crews remained on scene into the following day.
