Highway Havoc: Winter weather causes crashes, problems, delays
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — Emergency crews are responding to multiple crashes all over east Idaho as a result of the winter storm.
Idaho State Police are responding to a large number of motorists who have crashed or slid off the road in slick conditions on Interstate 84, Interstate 86, and Interstate 15. ISP and local county and city law enforcement and EMS are responding.
Idaho State Police is urging drivers to take precautions and remain alert of possible difficult driving conditions.
The Pocatello Police Department is asking drivers to travel only if necessary. They issued this statement:
“Pocatello Police warn drivers of the extremely slick road conditions. The rush hour has brought a slew of accidents caused by people driving too fast for road conditions. Be aware ice froze on the roads prior to this afternoon’s snowfall. Slow down! Give yourself plenty of distance to come to a stop.”
At least one major injury accident also occurred on U.S. Highway 20 at the County Line Road exit between Idaho Falls and Rigby this evening. No additional details are available on this crash at this time.
A significant number of other slide-offs and accidents have been reported between Rexburg and Pocatello.
