IDAHO FALLS — Construction on the Snake River and Porter Canal bridges on the Interstate 15 business loop (Broadway Street) in Idaho Falls resumed at 7 a.m. this morning. The project started in late September 2015 then shut down during winter weather.
Crews will repair joints and complete other maintenance, enhancing bridge safety, longevity and appearance. The work is scheduled for completion March 11, weather permitting.
Some construction will be at night to minimize inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians. During construction, travel will be reduced to two lanes in each direction, and sidewalks may be closed.
As part of the bridge-preservation project, crews also will finish refurbishing the Great Western Canal Bridge on I-15 about three miles north of Idaho Falls this spring. Initial work on this structure was completed last fall.
The transportation department awarded the $1.2 million contract for the bridge work to Cannon Builders Inc., of Blackfoot.
