Masked students with fake guns cause scare in Rexburg
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — A group of Brigham Young University-Idaho students filming a movie caused a scare for some residents Saturday night.
Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis says numerous people called 911 around 7:45 p.m. after seeing the students running with what appeared to be assault rifles near Florence’s Exquisite Candies on Center Street.
“They had airsoft guns but they looked like real weapons and the students were screaming and yelling,” Lewis tells EastIdahoNews.com.
Folks in the area were caught off guard.
“I pulled into the parking lot beside the candy shop and saw the three masked males run into the shop,” one EastIdahoNews.com reader told us on Facebook. “I left for safety and called 911.”
Numerous officers responded to the scene and learned there wasn’t a crime in progress; rather, the students were filming a movie at the candy store.
“They had not contacted us beforehand and we wish they would have,” Lewis says. “You just can’t do stuff like that.”
