Idaho Falls officer honored for saving man from drug overdose

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls Police Officer Blaine Reed received the department’s “Life‐Saving” Award this week for saving a 25‐year‐old man’s life after a drug overdose in March.
“Officer Reed’s actions saved this man’s life and hopefully he’ll take the needed steps to fight his
addiction,” Idaho Falls Capt. Royce Clements said during the Idaho Falls City Council meeting Thursday evening. “We are lucky to have an officer who cares so much for people. His desire to keep our community safe is unwavering.”
On March 28, Officer Reed and other officers responded to a drug overdose at a residence in the 2100 block of First Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 25‐year‐old man unconscious and unresponsive. Officer Reed began CPR on the man and was able to get a response before medics arrived and took over treatment.
Officer Reed not only saved a life during that incident, but he also followed up on information regarding the other individuals who were with the man but left prior to the police arriving. This follow‐up led to appropriate drug‐related arrests.
“Officer Reed’s actions, professionalism and work ethic brings great credit to himself and our department,” Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark McBride said. “We’re very proud of him.”
Officer Reed joined the IFPD in December 2015 after working seven years as a Fremont County Deputy.
