REXBURG — Police found a record book at a routine traffic stop that led them to a prostitution arrest.

Dallen E. Birch, 32, of St. Anthony, was arrested at a Rexburg hotel Saturday, Nov. 12, for misdemeanor patronizing a prostitute.

Officers found Birch after an unrelated traffic stop yielded a record book owned by a group of people in the vehicle.

According to the Rexburg police arrest log, Heather Corine Clinton, 20, Austin James Vandehey, 21, and Chelsea Marie Cantrell, 19, were stopped by police on Saturday.

Cantrell had a warrant out of Kootenai County and was arrested on that. Due to the arrest, police searched the vehicle and discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia. All three were charged with possession of control substances and drug paraphernalia.

Police then discovered a record book in the vehicle, which included the names of men interested in paying for sexual activity. The record led them to the hotel and Birch’s arrest, according to Rexburg Police Cpt. Randy Lewis.

Police say the encounter was initially made on www.backpage.com. None of individuals arrested in the vehicle were charged with any crime related to prostitution.

Birch posted a $2,500 bond on Sunday and was released. His first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 29.
