POCATELLO — A Pocatello sanitation truck driver had a wild ride this morning as crews were making rounds in the Johnny Creek area.

A garbage truck sank about 14 inches into the asphalt as the driver was rounding the corner of Mahogany and Chokecherry Drive.

The Pocatello Street Operations Department was quick to get the truck safely out of the sink hole and it was back on the road after about an hour.

Crews believe a water leak caused the problem. They are unsure of the exact source of the leak but are working quickly to make repairs.

“We are actively investigating if this is a water condition,” said Michael Jaglowski, Pocatello Public Works Director. “We really doubt it’s a sewer condition, but at this point we just really don’t know where the water is coming from. We want to make sure that everything is safe before we start opening the road back up to traffic.”

Water service to residents in the area will be interrupted while crews complete repairs.
